Lake James Speed Limit is 25mph

Please drive cautiously, and remember there is a minimum $200 fine for exceeding the speed limit.

At 25 mph, you will require a distance of at least 61 feet to stop your vehicle and at least 1.07 seconds. No matter what speed you are travelling, you will harm an adult if you hit them with your car. You will kill a child or a dog or cat.

If someone is hit by a car at 40 mph they are 90% likely to be killed.
If someone is hit by a car at 30 mph they are 50% likely to be killed.
If someone is hit by a car at 20 mph they are 10% likely to be killed.

The scenario is we have an inattentive driver and the car is being driven at 30 mph. The driver takes about 2.0 seconds to recognize the danger and start braking. During this period the car moves forward 88 feet. The brakes are then applied with full force and the car slows for just 12 feet before impact with the pedestrian. The speed at impact is over 24 mph.
